Check this one out. You’ll agree with me that it’s smokin’ hot!
It’s the Warren Haynes Band — fronted by Warren himself (duh), with the incredible Ruthie Foster on backing vocals — from their upcoming album, Man in Motion (out May 10). A week and a half before release, the album is already No. 1 in hot new releases in blues at Amazon.
The second song on the album is … River’s Gonna Rise.
I offer this one up with very little comment. It’s just a great Friday afternoon song -- here, performed live.
Bang along!
You may remember I spoke at MarcusEvans’ big 5th Annual Internal Branding & Employee Engagement Conference in February in Miami. After my talk fellow attendee and SmartBlog writer Robert Jones said he wanted to do a quick follow up interview on the videos I showed to learn about Best Buy’s overall use of moving pictures in employee communications.
We talked, he wrote, and here’s the finished product: How videos sell values at Best Buy.
I’m not our resident video expert – far, far, farrrrr from it, in fact – but we were able to chat about some specific ways Best Buy has successfully used video to reach its employees and create a level of esprit de corps.
Be sure to check out the comments.
If we hadn’t already received our refund check, which renders tax deadline day anti-climactic, I might be tempted to pull out a tax-related song to celebrate the arrival of April 15. The only that one that comes to mind is the Beatles’ Taxman. So never mind.
How about a great tune from Gov’t Mule. Let’s invite Warren Haynes and the boys to celebrate Tax Day 2011 with Soulshine.
You’ve got to let your soul shine. It’s better than sunshine. Better than moonshine. It’s damn sure better than rain.
We picked up a used Toyota Prius a couple weeks back to replace the 1999 Honda Accord I’ve driven since June 2001. The Accord’s transmission fell apart at 176,000 miles and we wanted something that would generate high miles-per-gallon on my daily 170-mile commute from Rochester to Richfield and back.
I’ve learned in my first two weeks of Prius ownership that maximizing the car’s mileage isn’t a simple matter of setting cruise control and taking a nap. No, there seems to be actual science involved. And practice.
The Prius folks say you can easily get 55 mpg. My first tank netted 39. Next round I got it up to 41. Most recently 43. I’m told it will go up considerably in warmer weather so we have that to look forward to. In the meantime I’m trying to figure out when and how to accelerate and how to maximize coasting. It seems a bit like sailing to me. You have to figure out how to get up hills without using much gas. Tacking back and forth doesn’t work. I’ve tried.
